Georgia Work Ready uses job profiles to identify the key workplace skills an individual must have to perform a particular job successfully.

By comparing job profile information with individuals' scores on the WorkKeys tests, organizations can make reliable decisions about hiring, training, and program development. ACT Job Profiling is the tool Georgia Work Ready uses to determine these skills.

Through job profiling organizations can analyze the skills needed for specific jobs and then describe those needs to educators, students, and job applicants.

Job profiling is used for white-collar professional jobs as well as jobs in manufacturing, healthcare, law enforcement, and hospitality. More than 10,000 unique job titles, ranging from accountant to automotive technician and from welder to webmaster, have been profiled by ACT Job Profiling.

Assessment scores on the tests in Applied Mathematics, Locating Information and Reading for Information correspond to the levels of difficulty of the problems solved. Level 3 problems are the simplest and level 7 the most complex, except on the Locating Information assessment, where the complexity of problems reaches only level 6.

Assessment Outcomes

After identifying the skill levels of employees, companies can evaluate any skill gaps between the job profile and each individual’s skills assessments. This impartial evaluation can then serve as a foundation to develop training programs tailored to specific individual and company needs.

How Employers Can Obtain a Customized Job Profile

A Georgia Work Ready Certificate guarantees an employee with stated skill levels in the areas of Applied Math, Reading for Information and Locating information as well as the personal skills suited to the job.

Every Technical College System of Georgia has a certified job profiler.  Job Profiling is available to all Georgia business and industry at no charge who meet hiring criteria threshold.   Find out more about how job profiling can help your business by contacting your local Technical College System of Georgia.

There are two ways a company can receive one free job profile per minimum requirements:

    1. A company meets the minimum hiring criteria of:
    • 15 net new jobs in the same job classification for manufacturing or warehouse and distribution sectors
    • 25 net new jobs in the same job classification in the service sector
    2. A company has 50 employees earn Work Ready Certificates

In addition, employers may browse through the data base of previously profiled jobs and occupations to determine Work Ready assessment level requirements.

Georgia Work Ready enables employers to match this employee to available jobs by profiling the tasks and skill levels each job requires. This service, a customized job profile, is available without charge to employers for positions they seek to fill. Using the ACT Job Profiling process, a trained facilitator works collaboratively with groups of employees to complete each job analysis. Job incumbents serve as the subject matter experts who define the tasks and skills needed to perform a specific job successfully.

Customized Job Profiling –

  • Supports hiring, promotion, and training decisions
  • Uses focus groups and trained facilitators
  • Offers a proven methodology and reliable results
  • Meets requirements adopted by the EEOC

Step 1: Creating an Initial Task List:
The profiler obtains background information about the job to be profiled from the company contact person and a tour of the job site.

Step 2: Task Analysis
The profiler meets with subject matter experts (SMEs)—incumbent workers or supervisors of the job being studied—who review and revise the list of tasks, adding, deleting, consolidating, or changing the wording of each task to make sure that the list accurately represents the job as it is performed in their company.
Then the SMEs rate each task according to two dimensions: importance and relative time spent. The data are used to produce a criticality rating for each task. The SMEs review this revised task list and make any necessary changes. The resulting final task list establishes which tasks are the most critical to performing the job.

Step 3: Skill Analysis
Profilers present detailed descriptions of each of the WorkKeys skills to the SMEs. These descriptions include examples of problems or situations employees must deal with at each level. The SMEs decide, as a group, which WorkKeys skills are relevant to the job and which skill levels are necessary for entry into the job and effective performance of the job.

Step 4: Documentation
The profiler documents the results in a customized Job Profile Report containing a list of the tasks most critical to performance of the job and information on the WorkKeys skills and skill levels required for entry into the job and effective performance of the job. This report establishes the link between the tasks of the job and the WorkKeys skills.

Georgia Work Ready Certificates tell employers the skill levels of workers who earn them.
Job profiling reveals whether these skills are adequate for specific jobs.
Together the two tools greatly reduce guesswork in hiring and promotion.
