Message from Governor Perdue and the President of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce

January 30, 2007

Dear Fellow Georgians,

On August 23 of last year the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and I announced that we were going to put a Main Entrance sign across Georgia through the voluntaryWork Ready’ initiative.  I talked about this two fold plan that included a Georgia Work Ready Certificate and a pathway for counties to become Certified Work Ready Communities.  Individuals may prepare for and take the Georgia Work Ready assessment that will determine their work readiness skill level.  Counties can obtain a Certified Work Ready Community status through helping their county residents in specified labor market groups obtain Work Ready Certificates. This is a State funded program that offers the assessment tool to individuals at no cost.  The assessment results are aligned to current and future occupation and job requirements.  The corresponding occupational information and job profiling support will be available to business and industry at no cost. We are pleased to announce that as of January 30, all of our technical colleges became operational to offer the Georgia Work Ready assessments.

Today we are following up on that discussion by beginning the process for counties to become Certified Work Ready Communities.  Below this message you will find links to the ‘Notification of Intent to Participate’ form and the guidance letter that explain how every county in Georgia can become a Certified Work Ready Community.  I have asked my Office of Workforce Development to coordinate this process.  Thank you for visiting the Georgia Work Ready website.  If you have any additional questions please contact our workforce development staff at 404-463-5030.

We hope to see all of Georgia’s counties working to put the Main Entrance sign across our great State.

Very truly yours,

Governor Sonny Perdue

George Israel, President, Georgia Chamber of Commerce
